Like me, you probably have a lot of ideas about certain parts of your life that needs to change, before you can start living your dream.
I have personally been struggling with this for quite some time now and have always thought that I wouldn’t be able to start my business, and start my life before I was 100 percent economically ready for it.
I have kept telling myself, that now isn’t the time because I still need to put a little more money aside for a rainy day. The problem is, however, that I never seem to be truly satisfied with the safety net I have built, because it can always get stronger.
I guess the real lesson to learn here, is that it will never be easy, nor safe, to start doing your own thing, and start living life on your terms completely.
But recently, I thought about this issue in a new way, that, I think, is going to allow me to begin doing it immediately.
I asked myself: How much do I need?
By that, I meant, how much money do I need every month, just to keep my head above water – financially.
I quickly broke out the calculator, and realized, that I basically need to work a regular job for just 20 hours a week, to be able to pay for everything I need.
I guess this is one of the benefits of trying to live as a minimalist – it lowers your requirements.
But just 20 hours a week! That is really nothing compared to the full-time job that I keep right now, which easily adds up to 40 hours a week.
Furthermore, I also think I could tolerate all kinds of jobs for such a short time.
By turning down my working schedule to its bare minimum, I will have time to start working on some of my dream projects on the side. And if any of them starts to become just slightly profitable, I will have more money than I truly need.
And hopefully, one day, some of my projects will turn so profitable, that I can turn to just working on them full time.
To summarize, this is how I will start living my dream today:
– Find out what I need moneywise – just to survive
– Find a part-time job, which will cover these expenses
– Start working on the projects I am passionate about
And suddenly, I have more control over my life.
